conversation. We will do meet 'n greet, Introductions, a women's history moment, hear from our guest speaker, and share networking tips.

Doreen Abubakar is a community visionary, urban environmentalist, and social entrepreneur based in New Haven, Connecticut. She is the founder and executive director
of CPEN (Community Placemaking Engagement Network), a nonprofit dedicated to empowering underserved communities to transform their neighborhoods into thriving, connected, and healthy
environments.
Talk—"From a Mud Hole to a Movement: The Power of Community to Transform Everything” by Doreen Abubakar. Her talks resonate across sectors—nonprofit leaders,
educators, policymakers, and community advocates—leaving audiences inspired to rethink how people, place, and purpose can align to create lasting impact. With a voice grounded in lived experience and
a deep commitment to equity, Doreen shares powerful stories of how communities can reclaim space, restore connection, and build pathways to well-being. Her work has turned overlooked urban areas into
thriving community hubs—most notably the Learning Corridor along the Farmington Canal Trail—and has introduced innovative programs in urban agriculture, youth leadership, and environmental
education.
